Child Lures Prevention
Program Introduced
On March 10th Pastors, Parochial Vicars,
Deacons, Parish Catechetical Leaders, Youth
Ministry Coordinators, and Pastoral Associates
gathered at Holy Rosary parish center in Caribou
for the introduction of the new "Child Lures
Prevention" program. Deacon Tom Deignan of
the Diocese of Portland, introduced the program
and speakers for the afternoon presentation.
Bishop Richard Malone opened the afternoon
with prayer and spoke about the importance
of creating a safe environment for our children.
He also spoke about the progress we have
made in making our churches and facilities
safe for all people, especially children and
young people.
Barbara Smith; Director of the
Diocesan Office of Catechetics and Initiation
and Sr. Rosemary T. Donohue, SND;
Superintendant of Catholic Schools spoke
about the selection process and how a team
of teachers, clergy and parents came to
choose "Child Lures Prevention" over other
programs available.
Pastors were asked to assemble teams in
their parishes who will be trained to
present the program to children, parents,
grandparents and all interested in the safety
and wellbeing of our children. The plan is to
have the program fully implemented in our
Catholic parishes and schools by the Fall of 2005.
